Non-Fiction Workshop

Unearthing Our Stories, Journal Writing

with Susan Tiberghien

In his Inaugural Address, President Biden asserted, “We shall write an American story of hope, not fear. Of unity, not division. Of light, not darkness.”

Now is our time. In this workshop, we will unearth these stories from within us, whether they be American, Swiss, or Zimbabwean.

We will look at our fears, at our divisions, at our darkness, in order to write them into stories of hope, unity and light. We will read work from Orhan Pamuk, Margaret Atwood, Terry Tempest Williams, and Petina Gappah.

The workshop will have four parts: journaling, narrative, the unconscious, then how to share our light through story.

“For there is always light, / if only we’re brave enough to see it / if only we’re brave enough to be it” Amanda Gorman, Inauguration Poem, ‘The Hill We Climb’
